WHAT A NIGHT!

Congratulations to the Victoria Grandmothers for Africa for the outstanding success of Saturday's Turning the Tide . . . One Ripple At a Time Gala Dinner and Auction. The proceeds will assist the Stephen Lewis Foundation's Grandmothers-to-Grandmothers Campaign, supporting African grandmothers who care for their AIDS-orphaned grandchildren.

It was inspiring to hear Stephen Lewis speak so eloquently about this important work.

I would also like to offer my thanks and congratulations to Grandmothers for Africa from across Canada who worked so hard to bring about last week's successful outcome on Bill C-393 when it passed Third Reading in the House of Commons. The private member's "Medicine for All" bill, sponsored by my colleague MP Paul Dewar, brings Canada one step closer to following through on international commitments to make affordable medicines available in developing countries. Now it faces yet another hurdle to pass in the Conservative-dominated Canadian Senate.
