SAVOIE RECEIVES PRESTIGIOUS ENVIRONMENTAL AWARD

VICTORIA – Denise Savoie, Member of Parliament for Victoria, today received the prestigious Canadian Society of Landscape Architects’ Community Service Award.

Each year the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects [CSLA] selects a public agency, community group or individual who has contributed significantly to environmental responsibility.

“The three fundamental ideals of our profession are sustaining the environment for future generations, creating livable places for people, and enhancing beauty in the world around us,” said Richard Moore, President of the CSLA. “By awarding Mme. Savoie our Community Service Award, we recognize her commitment to these same ideals, and applaud her work in helping her community realize them.”

“I am honoured to be the recipient of the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects’ Community Service Award,” commented Mme. Savoie. “It is a privilege to be acknowledged for significant contributions to environmental sustainability.”

“Architects and other community leaders have an obligation to plan and build communities that respond to and serve the needs of all citizens,” Savoie continued. “In Victoria, I have been proud to work on projects like the regional greenways plan, shoreline restoration, Selkirk Waterfront, and the Dockside Green and Railyards housing projects. Each of these illustrates how all of us can work together to nature-scape our neighbourhoods, and ensure their livability.”

The Canadian Society of Landscape Architects is the national professional association that represents and promotes landscape architecture in Canada. Nominations for the CSLA Community Service Award may be centred on activities at the local, regional or national level, and may originate from any CSLA member or component association. Mme. Savoie was nominated by the British Columbia Society of Landscape Architects.
