VICTORIA – Denise Savoie, running for re-election as Member of Parliament for Victoria, will be joined by MLA Rob Fleming and former Victoria Mayor Gretchen Brewin for a mainstreeting event today, October 4, at noon.
The political trio will be joined by a group of enthusiastic volunteers in the heart of Cook Street Village.
Savoie prepared for the final week of campaigning by urging her supporters to vote this weekend in the advance polls. She is buoyed by the response she has received in almost four weeks of canvassing door-to-door and participating in all-candidates’ debates.
“I am hearing from people in Victoria that they are concerned about the economic turmoil south of the border, “said Savoie. “They are looking for a representative who speaks for them in Ottawa, not for a representative who gives away their hard-earned tax dollars to the large polluting corporations that ship jobs overseas.”
Savoie has been swamped by more than 1,000 requests for campaign signs. Her preference has been for her recyclable signs to be placed only on private property, so that every sign represents a household of supporters. Her opponents, on the other hand, have placed signs on public property, frequently in places prohibited by the municipalities.
