Savoie Poised for Second Term in Ottawa
Independent Victoria Poll conducted by Gordon Pollard for Victoria Street Newz
Incumbent New democrat Denise Savoie appears headed for a fairly easy re-election in Victoria on October 14th, according to the results of an exclusive public opinion survey conducted for Victoria Street News.
A random sample of 400 decided voters in the Victoria federal constituency were polled by telephone from Sept. 2nd to 13th and asked:
“If a federal election were being held today, which candidate would you vote for in the Victoria Riding:
Jack McClintock of the Conservative Party,
Anne Park Shannon of the Liberal Party,
Adam Saab of the Green Party, or
Denise Savoie of the New Democratic Party?”
Savoie was supported by 149 respondents (37.3 per cent) while McClintock received 110 votes (27.5 per cent), Park Shannon 95 votes (23.8 per cent) and Saab 38 votes (9.5 per cent). Eight respondents gave their support to independents of other parties (including the Marijuana Party, the Western Canada Concept and the Christian Heritage Party).
Gordon Pollard, who carried out the survey, conducted an opinion poll for Victoria Street Newz for the 2006 federal election. That poll accurately predicted the result for each of the four candidates in Victoria within less than one per cent.
A native of Victoria, Pollard has a BA from the University of Victoria and an MA from Columbia University in New York City. After working as a journalist in BC, Alberta and Ontario, he spent 20 years teaching English and history in Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka.
